Mark Twain had as much trouble with golf as anyone else. He quipped that the game’s entire purpose was to spoil his walk through the greens. Hooking a shot to the left, slicing to the right, landing in the sand trap, and watching the ball roll off the tee are all frustrating parts of the game. In an ideal world, everyone would have an expert caddy that told them exactly which club to use. One way to improve your game is to select the proper club at all times. The tips that follow can help you in the future.
Put your entire body into your swing to give it force. Do not fall into the trap of many beginning golfers and assume that arm strength is all that is needed. You’ll find you are much more effective in accomplishing your purpose if you put your whole body into your swing.
Try to stretch and get plenty of water before you start playing. When you’re in good shape, your game will improve.
The muscles through your entire body should come into play for the most powerful stroke possible, and your legs and trunk are most crucial. Your body needs to accelerate with the finesse of a whip. Do this by pushing your legs against the ground and drawing on the energy this generates.
Make sure your grip is neither too loose nor too tight. When you grip your golf club tighter than you should, your shots will tend to hook right. And if you hold it too loosely, the club will send the ball left. You can correct your grip based on which direction your ball takes.
Prepare a simple snack like nuts and bring it with you when you go golfing. Golf requires physical energy and mental energy. Your mind will be alert and your muscles will not get too tired during the 18 holes, thanks to the energy and protein from the snack.
When lining up on the tee, make sure that the ball is aligned with the heel of your forward foot. For other swings, the ball should be consistently placed close to equal distance between your left foot and right foot. The only exception to this stance is when the ball is on a slope.
Don’t stand or hold your club in an unnatural position. If it feels uncomfortable, you probably won’t be able to play well. Practice your stance without using the golf club. Stand bent a little at the waist, with flexed knees, and have your arms dropped in front of yourself naturally. Clasp your hands together pretending as if you were holding a club. If at this point you feel discomfort, rethink your positioning and try again.
When your club comes into contact with the ball, ensure that the club face is completely square. This helps the ball travel in a straight line. Your golf ball will travel in the wrong direction if your club is not square with the ball. Test out some stances and adjust to what suits your body most, but do your best to strike at a clean, 90 degree angle each time.
Hybrid Clubs
New and seasoned golfers can improve with the help of hybrid clubs. This kind of club can be controlled more easily than a wood and has a head larger than the one on an iron. Hybrid clubs have the potential to become the single greatest improvement that golfing has seen in recent decades.
